carvings and ha1 review

moses

went to edinburgh again yesterday, but also went to roslin. roslin is a small, stereotypical scottish town, there's one main road with stores like "the rolsin grocery store" and "the roslin pharmacy". they have one of all the basics there and no more. but the real reason yourists go there is for rosslyn chapel (it was in the davinci code). the inside is covered with intricate and often creepy carvings all with symbolic meaning. the picture on this post is from there: it's moses, and yes, those are horns on his head. i don't think there were many jews in scotland in the mid fifteenth century. i put a few more pictures in the flickr thing, including one where a skeleton with a scythe hanging out with a couple of little kids.
we also went to the national gallery and put my intro art history knowledge to the test. i've forgotten the exact dates and titles but i could name the artists just fine.
sunday was enjoyable, to put it simply. made it tough to get up early to make the train yesterday.

we have this week off, it's "reading period" but not a lot of that goes on at this school (zing!). i'll probably do another day trip or two, finish up some projects and do some research for one of the 2 papers i'll have to write before june (the first one is due mid march).
